Padma’s activities on social responsibility
Chronic infections and malnutrition have long-term effects on future educational performances.
Illnesses consume nutrients and calories causing the young generation to lose focus in studies. Girls are reluctant to go to school and parents are reluctant to send them to institutions where there are no safe private toilets to use.
- Bangladesh still has the largest proportion of people exposed to contaminated water.
- Schools in Bangladesh have on average one toilet per 187 students according to the National Baseline Survey, 2014.
- Around 35 percent of schools are openly dumping fecal sludge from the toilets creating water pollution and the spread of diseases.
- Only 22 percent of schools have separate toilet facilities for girls
- Knowledge and practice of menstrual hygiene are poor among girls in Bangladesh.
- Hand-washing is still not practiced properly by students in Bangladesh
The situation is significantly worse in hilly areas, urban slums, coastal regions, and wetlands, where there is still no access to clean water.
Our Activity
Padma is focused on contributing to the betterment of the well-being of the people through its social activities. An initiative specifically taken to promote healthy hygiene habits by the people of Bangladesh. Ending open defecation and ensuring all children have access to proper toilet facilities is a top priority of this program. We ensure that the toilets have access to an adequate amount of running water and have proper facilities for hand-washing.
The program has been arranged for the implementation of sanitation and hygiene facilities in schools in Bangladesh. We also aim to build awareness on the link between sanitation and a healthy lifestyle so that people in Bangladesh come forward with an interest in building toilets for themselves. Preventing disease transmission in schools can have an impact on school attendance, school grades, and child cognitive development, with long-term consequences.
Children are the most important resource for future economic growth. We want to promote the well-being of the young group- For the betterment of this country and its people.
